SneedSpeed R53 SR71 Coated & Ported Header with High-Flow Cat
The SneedSpeed SR71 Header was developed for the R52/R53 MINI Cooper S and JCW with the W11 supercharged engine to improve exhaust flow, control engine-bay heat, and get more performance out of the W11.
Like most SneedSpeed parts, the idea is simple: fix the restrictions in the factory design and build something we would actually run on our own cars.
The factory exhaust manifold works, but there is plenty of room for improvement. Our SR71 header is ported for better exhaust flow, coated to help control radiant heat, and supplied with a high-flow catalytic converter. It's a straightforward performance upgrade that works just as well on a daily-driven R53 as it does on a modified street or track car.
Why We Built It
On the W11, getting exhaust out of the engine efficiently is just as important as getting air into it. Restrictions and poor transitions create turbulence and backpressure, while the exhaust manifold puts a significant amount of heat into an already crowded R53 engine bay.
The SR71 header addresses both.
We port the header to clean up the exhaust path and improve the transitions through the system. Better transitions mean smoother exhaust flow and less unnecessary restriction.
We then apply our SR71 thermal coating to help keep exhaust heat in the header instead of allowing as much of it to radiate into the engine compartment.
It's not about adding features just to make a longer spec sheet. It's about improving the areas of the factory system that actually matter.
Ported for Better Exhaust Flow
Every SR71 header is ported to improve the transitions through the exhaust path and reduce unnecessary restriction.
This becomes even more important as you start modifying the W11. A smaller supercharger pulley, intake, camshaft, cylinder-head work, increased boost, and other performance modifications all increase the amount of air moving through the engine.
Getting that air into the engine is only half the equation. You still have to get the exhaust out.
The SR71 header gives the W11 a better exhaust path and makes it a solid upgrade for both stock and modified cars.
SR71 Thermal Coating
Heat management matters on an R53.
The W11 puts the exhaust manifold at the back of an already tightly packaged engine compartment. Our SR71 thermal coating helps reduce radiant heat from the header and keep more exhaust energy inside the exhaust system.
That means less heat being transferred into the surrounding engine bay and nearby components.
For a street car, that's useful.
For a car being driven hard for extended periods, it's even more important.
High-Flow Catalytic Converter Included
The SR71 header includes a high-flow catalytic converter, giving you the improved exhaust path of a performance header while retaining a catalytic converter in the system.
That makes the SR71 a practical choice for street-driven MINIs as well as dual-purpose street and track cars.
Emissions Note: Aftermarket exhaust components and catalytic converters may affect emissions compliance depending on your state or local regulations. Always verify the requirements that apply to your vehicle before installation.

The SneedSpeed Approach
We've been building, developing, and racing MINIs for more than 20 years. That experience shapes how we develop our parts.
We don't believe every performance part needs to be complicated, and we don't add features just so there is something else to advertise.
With the SR71 header, we focused on what matters on the W11:
Better flow. Better heat control. A better exhaust path.
It's the same approach we use with our engines and powertrain components: identify the weaknesses in the factory design, improve the areas that matter, and build parts for how these cars are actually used.
Built from Racing. Proven by Results.
If we wouldn't run it, we don't sell it.
